Our Favorite Sustainable Swimwear Brands

Updated: Nov 10, 2021

Listen, we love Target as much as the next person, but is it really the most conscious choice to buy your swimwear this year? We love learning new ways to live (and run a company) more sustainably, and fast fashion is one of the leading industries in material waste right now. Did you know that three out of five garments end up in a landfill within a year of purchase? And that 100 BILLION items of clothing are manufactured each year? That’s 60 billion items of clothing in landfills, so here’s a few sustainable slow fashion companies that we’ll be looking into for our swimwear this year!

First off, we have Summersalt (cute right?!). Summersalt is right in Shark OFF’s backyard, located in St. Louis, Missouri. They are women-owned and feature swimwear, active wear, a cashmere collection, and a gift collection. They have cultivated their unique swimwear line by taking over 1.5 million body measurements from over 10,000 women of every shape and size (which we love to see). Summersalt’s suits are made with recycled textiles that are made to last, and at less than $100, they won’t break the bank!

Next is TomboyX, a swimwear company devoted to “any girl, woman, or person” who wants to express themself through what they wear. Founders Fran and Naomi “believe that everything you put on your body should make you feel great exactly as you are, and help you express yourself without constraint”, and we agree! With great resources on what exactly “sustainability” means, great career opportunities that pay a living wage, and LGBTQ+ and BIPOC representation, TomboyX is a great choice for your 2021 swimwear season.

Here are a few more of our favorite companies:

We could list so many more, but we’ll just say to get out there and see the hundreds of amazing, affordable, eco-friendly companies who are slowing down the fashion industry one swimsuit at a time. There is no planet B!

And we can’t forget...our Shark OFF bracelets will pair quite nicely with any of these options. As a company we too are on a mission to become more sustainable everyday - that’s why we have been committed to donating 10% of our profits to the Ocean Voyages Institute since day one. Our proven (and stylish) shark repellent is shipped and packaged in all recyclable or compostable materials, and the active element is completely biodegradable (and of course does not harm sharks, humans or the ecosystem).
