What is more likely a shark attack?

Updated: Oct 13, 2023

Sharks often get a bad rep. They are seen as dangerous to beach goers, but this fear is not really well founded. In fact, the numbers are sort of absurd. Some estimates put it as low as 1 in 4.33 million, while other estimates go as high as 1 in 264.1 million! In either case, the likelihood of being hurt by a shark is incredibly low. We have put together short list of some unexpected items which are more dangerous than sharks.

For starters, mosquitoes which carry malaria are far more lethal than sharks have ever been. Though, if we are going to compare the rates at which animals kill humans, then there are many species which far exceed sharks. Some are not difficult to guess: like snakes or other humans. But others are less expected, like dogs, freshwater snails, and crocodiles.

One would also expect that there are many, many bodily ills which could beat sharks, too -- like heart disease, cancer, or complications of age. However there are also many less common conditions which are more frequent than shark attacks. Anything from hypothermia to the common flu, but also falling down, sun exposure, or even infections that are gotten in hospitals (which, as expected, are incredibly rare).

Even further, there are some of the rather unique was of going. For instance, being struck by lightning. You are still more likely to be struck by lightning than to be harmed by a shark -- some even contend that you are more likely to be struck twice. Other odd ways might include champagne corks, fireworks, ladders, sand hole collapses, or even being caught in a tornado. All of these are still more common than shark attacks.

BUT WAIT...

If all of these absurd circumstances are more frequent than shark attacks, then why would anybody want to buy our Shark OFF shark repellent jewelry? Well, for starters, there are still enough attacks for there to be data, even though they are rare. We know so well how fear can hold us back - that's why we developed Shark OFF! Boss Mama Shea was terrified of stepping foot into the ocean after watching Jaws as a child, and we're sure many of you can relate! Taking preventative measure will ensure that both you and your family stay safe at the shore without a single worry.

In the end, as long as you keep your Shark OFF shark repellent surfwear jewelry on, you will not need to fret. Shark OFF helps you lose the fear and love the ocean. What more could you ask for?

If you have ever been to Komodo National Park, you can sometime see them, but not great white, typically just reef shark. We can see the island of Kelor here at https://www.komodoislandtour.com/kelor_island.html
